National Zoo Highlights

random221b , and the fabulous Miss V for a day of fun in the sunshine and warm autumn breezes at the national zoo in DC. We couldn't have asked for better weather. It was warm *but not too warm*, sunny, breezy and VERY beautiful walking weather. Later we caught up with the_smith_e at their home for some dinner and great conversation. It was a fantastic day, here are some highlights...
- an ENTIRE courtyard of King Julius' but they weren't dancing
- TURTLES *clearly it was a VERY good year for turtle breeding
- an Bald Eagle eating a rat less than 15 feet away *I had NO clue they were that friggin big* (but he was aparently evil for eating the rat's head first)
- A very pretty female lioness looking for a hot date...rather loudly
- Eating lunch at a picnic table in the parking lot of the zoo and chatting
- Spider butt shots
- The lizard with "alien eyes"
- The tiger sunning himself and laying quiet leisurely for us to get damn good pictures of him
- Seeing Wolves at the zoo for the first time EVER *we always try but never actually SEE them*
- PRAIRIE DOGS!!!!!!!!!!!
- Caillie pulling a lion tamer trick with a t-rex
- Jaba the Tortoise
- ITTY BITTY LITTLE ORANGE FROGGIE
- Orangutangs playing in their yard
- Dinner and relaxation with the Smith family after we all got done
- Seeing Caillie and V wonder around holding hands
- V and Scott taking tons of pictures together
The sad part- Caillie didn't get to see the Pandas, which were the most important part of her visit. By the time we got to that part of the park, the inside was closed and they weren't in their yard anymore. So we have plans to go again in a few weeks and start at that end of the park so we're sure to see them first :)
It was one of the best days I've had in recent memory. Good company, good sights and a fantastic day all around. I'm thankful that I have such a great group of people in my life.
