Aug. 19th, 2009 08:36 amThe Gratitude project- The rules are simple. Every day between Lammas and Mabon one must find something to be grateful for in life. No repeats - one can be grateful to people more than once, but it has be for different reasons.
Today I am grateful for 2 things...because I can be...
I am grateful for alternatives to the shitastic public schools we have here in the city...Caillie goes to one of the best charter schools I've heard of in this part of the state and its totally free to the *mostly* lower income families that are enrolled. The teachers and staff make it a point to know EVERY child's name and know most of the parents as well. They stress the importance of ALL of the big subjects, not just what is on the standardized tests. They provide a safe place for children to learn, through parental involvement, high standards and amazing teachers and staff, all for free. All they ask in return is that the parents occasionally donate classroom items and be involved in their student's education. In this day and age finding good public schooling in a strapped inner city district is hard if not impossible, luckily Lincoln Charter exists..For that I am grateful...
I am also grateful for having the mother I was happy to be born with this lifetime. She has her faults, but for the lot she was given in life she is one hell of a fighter. She's strong, opinionated, intelligent, witty and has a killer sense of humor. And today is her 57th birthday....
